Andreas Felger has been working on up to 50 sketchbooks and a multitude of individual sheets with writing and images every year since 1970. With sketchy drawings, watercolours, incisions, collages as well as quotations and his own text drafts, he transforms the white sheets into intermediate stages of art. He develops, rejects and documents ideas, questions himself – as a feeling, believing and creative human being.

The sketches are often documents of doubt, search and experimentation. Their themes are as broad as those of his entire œuvre, but there are focal points: the domestic landscape, portraits, travel notes, pictorial notations on the occasion of musical compositions, abstract colour-form relationships. They give us an insight into the depth of artistic practice at its sources. Only by looking at the birth and development of the paintings can we recognise and appreciate the paths of their spiritual and material genesis. This online exhibition is also a selection of the exhibition LEBENSLINIEN. Andreas Felger’s sketches in the context of his art shown from May to September 2021  at the Pausa-Tonnenhalle in Mössingen.
